Instructions for Valve Clearance Adjustment

If the valve operation mechanism for intake and exhaust develops play, you will start to hear a typical ticking noise from the top of the engine: this issue can be remedied by performing a manual adjustment. Raise the vehicle from the side while leaving it in gear (perhaps fourth gear): this will allow, through the rotation of the wheel, to align the valve rocker for adjustment (the valve must be in the closed position, i.e., with the operating spring released); remove the rocker cover to access the adjustment system. Once the timing is correctly positioned, pass the feeler gauge between the cam and the valve stem: if it passes too easily, loosen the locknut, adjust so that the feeler gauge passes with resistance, and tighten the locknut. Be careful when selecting the feeler gauge.
