Adjusting Auxiliary Belt Tensioner

Model: Peugeot 406 MK 1 - Years 1995-2005

If you hear a squeaking noise coming from the engine bay that increases with acceleration, it is likely due to the slipping of the auxiliary belt caused either by deterioration of the belt itself or simply because it is not sufficiently tensioned due to incorrect adjustment of the tensioner. To access the tensioner, first remove the box containing the engine management unit: open the cover, disconnect the connectors, extract the unit, and remove the box by unscrewing the pins at the bottom. At this point, you can adjust the auxiliary belt tensioner by inserting an Allen key into the hole next to the fixing pin, turning it to increase the tension, and tightening the fixing pin.
