This beautiful 3D animation shows how the R135 electric motor of the Renault Zoe works: the vehicle is powered by a high-voltage battery that stores the electrical energy needed to operate the vehicle. Pressing the accelerator sends electric current from the battery to the motor, which converts this electrical energy into mechanical energy, turning the wheels.

As seen in the animation, the operation is much simpler than that of an internal combustion engine; there are no valves, pistons, or complex gears, making the vehicle much quieter with less vibration. When you release the accelerator or press the brake, the electric motor runs in reverse, acting as a generator.

This way, the kinetic energy of the vehicle is recovered and stored in the battery, increasing the range.
