Replacing the Timing Belt

It is recommended to perform this maintenance if you have good mechanical knowledge: an error in installation could severely damage the engine. Therefore, lift the vehicle on suitable axle stands and remove both the passenger side wheel and the plastic wheel arch liner; then remove the auxiliary belt by loosening the alternator tensioner; also dismantle the starter motor to identify the timing reference on the flywheel and possibly block it with a screwdriver to remove the crankshaft pulley. To easily remove the tensioner and thus the toothed belt, you need to dismantle the engine mount, supporting it with a jack: before removing the belt, align the timing references and block the rotation of the flywheel with a pin. It is also advisable to replace the water pump due to the complexity of the disassembly: this is a precautionary replacement. Once the new pump and new tensioner are installed, apply the new belt and tension it appropriately. Finally, reassemble everything that was previously removed and restore the coolant level.
