How to Change the Oil and Oil Filter on a Subaru Ascent

To change the oil and oil filter on a Subaru Ascent, raise the front of the vehicle. Remove the oil filter using an appropriate wrench. After removing the oil filter, clean its mounting area. Take the new oil filter and screw it in place using the appropriate wrench. Once the oil filter is replaced, go under the vehicle, remove the oil drain plug with a 14mm socket, and let the oil drain into a container. After the oil has drained, clean the oil drain plug and its seating area, then reinstall the plug. With the drain plug secured, go back to the top of the vehicle, insert a funnel into the oil fill hole, and pour in the specified quarts of oil. When you are close to the specified amount, check the oil level by pulling out the dipstick (check the level with the vehicle on a level surface and check the dipstick a second time). If the oil level is at the max mark, the job is complete; otherwise, add more oil as needed.
