How to discover that the clutch of our car has problems

To discover if our clutch has problems, there are various tests: the first one is the engagement point test. We need to put the car on a flat surface, pull the handbrake and start the engine, put it in first gear and slowly release the clutch pedal, paying attention to the point where the car starts to vibrate: this is the engagement point. If it is too high or too low, this could indicate a problem with the clutch. The slipping test is done by putting the car in third or fourth gear and accelerating sharply. If the engine revs up quickly, without the car increasing in speed proportionally, then the clutch could be slipping, and therefore not transferring the engine power to the wheels efficiently. The pedal test is done by pressing the clutch pedal several times, and paying attention to noises, vibrations or resistance: there could be a problem with the mechanism. A last test we can do is on a hill with a standing start: if the car struggles to start or slips, it is a sign of wear.
