How to replace the starter motor on the Yamaha X-Max

To remove the starter motor, proceed as follows: loosen the air filter with a 5mm hex key, unscrew the 2 pins, move the air filter, remove the cap protecting the positive terminal of the starter motor, unscrew the 3 bolts below the starter motor including the power one, and you can slide the starter motor out of its housing to the left. Before fitting the new starter motor, clean its housing, remove the cap covering the gears of the new motor, apply lubricant (specific engine oil) around the seal to ease insertion. Insert the motor into its housing, re-tighten the bolts, connecting the positive and negative cables, being careful not to overtighten the bolts to avoid breaking them. Replace the cap on the positive terminal and you can tighten the bolts holding the air filter, testing the new starter motor.
