How to Overhaul the Brake Pump

Here’s how to overhaul the brake pump: first, be very careful when handling brake fluid as it can corrode paint. To proceed, disconnect the brake lines using a special tool, as a standard spanner would damage the hex nuts. Next, remove the stop screw for the piston; push it all the way in and take out the screw and its seal. Now inspect the brake pump, cleaning the disassembled parts with compressed air. There should be no scratches or corrosion inside the cylinder. If there are, the cylinder must be replaced. Inspect the piston and rubber seals, ensuring they are not worn. The rubber parts to be replaced should be lubricated with glycol grease. Install the brake pump, but first, measure the length of the servo brake push rod. Finally, fill the brake fluid reservoir and bleed the system. If the cylinder has been replaced or repaired, it is essential to bleed the air from the system after adding the brake fluid.
