Replacing the Ignition Coil Condenser

Model: Volkswagen Maggiolino MK 1 - Years 1938-1980

In older cars, the ignition system for the spark plugs relied on a coil and an electrical contact that, when opened, generated the energy needed to create the high voltage required for the plugs. In parallel to this contact, there is a condenser that limits the sparking of the contacts to reduce wear. It may happen that the condenser shorts out, preventing the necessary spark from forming at the plug. To replace it, obtain a condenser with the same specifications, then remove the cap from the distributor, unscrew the retaining screw of the condenser wire, and remove it from its seat. Install a new condenser by reversing the process. If necessary, clean the points contacts.
