Cleaning the Ignition Coil Contacts

In older cars, the ignition system for the spark plugs relied on a coil and an electrical contact that, when opened, generated the necessary energy to create the high voltage needed for the spark plugs. In parallel with this contact, there is a capacitor that limits the sparking of the contacts to reduce wear. However, after a long period of operation, the electrical contacts tend to oxidise due to continuous sparking, preventing the necessary spark for the plug. To clean them, remove the ignition coil cap and, using very fine sandpaper, gently clean all the contacts. Refit the cap and perform a functionality test.
