Ignition Coil Capacitor Replacement

Model: Volkswagen Maggiolino MK 1 - Years 1938-1980

In older cars, the ignition system for the spark plugs relied on a coil and an electrical contact that, when opened, created the energy needed to generate the high voltage required for the plugs. In parallel with this contact, there is a capacitor that limits the sparking of the contacts to reduce wear. It can happen that the capacitor shorts out, preventing the spark necessary for the plug. To replace it, remove the cap from the distributor, unscrew the retaining screw of the capacitor wire, and remove it from its seat. Install a new capacitor by reversing the process. If necessary, clean the points contacts.
