A first method to check the efficiency of the water pump is to check if coolant arrives from the return pipe connected to the expansion tank: before starting the engine, therefore, disconnect the return pipe from the expansion tank, paying attention be careful not to damage the plastic spout; once the tube has been extracted, start the engine by activating the passenger compartment heating in order to lower the circuit pressure and check for liquid leaking from the tube: if it does not come out even when accelerating, then the water pump must be replaced. In this case, the water pump is driven by the timing belt and to be able to replace it, it is necessary to disassemble everything: therefore, consider whether it is necessary to replace the entire distribution kit rather than just the pump (the impeller is in fact broken in plastic). Once everything has been installed and the refrigeration system filled, carry out the same check: if liquid comes out of the return pipe, everything is in order.
