Check Water Pump Efficiency

A first method to check the efficiency of the water pump is to see if coolant flows from the return pipe connected to the expansion tank: before starting the engine, disconnect the return hose from the expansion tank, taking care not to damage the plastic nozzle. Once the hose is removed, start the engine and activate the cabin heating to lower the circuit pressure and check for coolant flow from the hose: if none comes out even when accelerating, the water pump needs replacing. In this case, the water pump is driven by the timing belt, and to replace it, you need to disassemble everything: consider whether to replace the entire timing kit rather than just the pump (the plastic impeller has indeed broken). Once everything is installed and the cooling system is filled, perform the same check: if coolant flows from the return hose, everything is normal.
