Instructions for Replacing the Contact Rotor

Model: Volkswagen Golf Golf IV, MK 4, Golf 4 - Years 1997-2003

If the engine fails to start or the starter motor does not activate when turning the key to the start position, it is likely that there is wear on the contacts in the rotor located just behind the ignition switch. To replace it, first disconnect the battery, then proceed to remove the airbag, steering wheel, light switch, and the protective covers located directly behind the steering wheel; at this point, you will need a special puller to remove the bearing located just in front of the ignition switch, then pull out the ignition switch and proceed with the rotor replacement.
