To deactivate Lane Assist on the Volkswagen Golf, turn on the instrument cluster by rotating the key in the ignition switch. Once this is on, press the menu icon located on the display at the centre of the dashboard, situated at the top right of the screen.

This will bring up a menu showing the various active driving aids: Lane Assist will be the first on the list and can be activated or deactivated by checking or unchecking the box next to the relevant label.
