How to Replace the Timing Belt on a Volvo V70

This guide shows how to replace the timing belt on a Volvo V70 produced between 2001 and 2005. Use a Torx30 spanner to remove the two screws securing the plastic engine cover. After lifting the two plastic tabs, remove the cover. Cut the retaining clip of the power steering hose and remove the reservoir from its position. At this point, use a 14mm spanner to loosen the belt tensioner and remove the worn old piece. With a 10mm spanner, remove the two bolts located at the side of the engine that hold the second belt cover in place. Lift the car, remove the front right wheel, and open the wheel arch panel. With a 10mm spanner, remove the two bolts on the right side of the pulley and slide off the released clip. Lowering the car allows you to align the marks on the pulleys with the plastic cover removed first. Using a 10mm spanner, remove the second tensioner; with a 6mm spanner, loosen the tensioner and remove the belt. Finish unscrewing the tensioner bolt and take it out. Remove the pulley located on the right of the recently removed tensioner. At this point, you can reassemble the new parts, ensuring they are positioned correctly. Insert the new belt from below and place a screwdriver behind the lower pulley to hold the belt in place. Check that the marks are still aligned and tighten the tensioner; with the 6mm spanner, return the selector to the starting position and use the 10mm spanner to apply tension to the belt. Perform a full rotation and recheck the marks on the pulleys. Reposition the clip on the lower pulley and close the wheel arch; reassemble the wheel and lower the car. Refit the plastic cover on the newly replaced belt. Reassemble the second belt and tension it. Refit the power steering reservoir in position and reattach the cover above the engine. Start the engine to check the correct operation of the replacement.
