Removal of Belt and Thermostat

Model: Audi A4 B5 - Years 1994-2000
Part: Thermostat

The following operations must be performed with the engine cold. This job requires some time, patience, and good manual skills.
The first step is to drain the cooling system, then move to the radiator by disconnecting the fan connector. Next, remove the front wheel on the driver's side and take off the plastic inside the wheel well to access the radiator and disconnect the lower hose. The next step is to remove the power steering belt. If you look at the engine, under the thermostat, there is a black pulley with nuts that need to be loosened. If you have difficulty removing the belt, just remove the water pump pulley and everything will come off. Then, remove the thermostat housing and disconnect the hoses that come from under the thermostat housing. Next, disconnect the electrical connector from above the thermostat and remove the bolt that secures the electrical wires. Put the car in first gear to prevent the engine from turning, remove the two plastic covers over the belt tensioners, and you can start to remove it.

How to Open the Bonnet of the Ford Transit Custom

On many Ford vehicles, opening the bonnet is not done using the traditional lever located in the cabin, at the bottom left on the driver's side. Instead, you must use the ignition key to unlock a lock positioned at the front of the vehicle, usually beneath the manufacturer's badge. The reason for this choice is unclear, but it can pose a difficulty if the lock becomes jammed, risking damage to the key. You can try to disengage the lock by inserting a long screwdriver through the grille of the front panel. Once the first opening is achieved, spray some unlocking fluid on the lock to allow subsequent activation with the key.
