To change the battery in a BMW X1, start by turning off the vehicle and ensuring all lights and electrical systems are off. The battery is located in the engine compartment, usually protected by a cover or shroud. To access it, open the hood and locate the battery compartment.

Remove the cover, if present, to expose the terminals. Begin by disconnecting the negative cable, identifiable by the "-" symbol or black color, followed by the positive, marked with "+" or red. Once disconnected, unscrew the clamps or supports that hold the battery in place and carefully lift it out. Place the new battery in the same housing, ensuring it is securely fastened.

Reconnect the cables in reverse order, starting with the positive and ending with the negative. Finally, check that the terminals are tight and replace the protective cover, if present, before closing the hood.
