How to Clean and Remove Air Bubbles from the Cooling System

Model: BMW Serie 5 E39 - Years 1995-2003
Part: Antifreeze coolant

Do you want to remove the air bubbles that form in the cooling circuit of your BMW 5 Series? This tutorial explains how to do it; you can avoid having the air introduced into the circuit expand with heat and consequently damage the cylinder head. After opening the hood, locate and slightly loosen the air bleed valves that allow for air removal. One is located right above the radiator while another is positioned on the thermostat. To perform this procedure, keep the ignition on. Pour coolant into the reservoir. Continue to add it gradually (multiple times) and observe the air bleed valve: at some point, you should notice the liquid mixed with air coming out. It is at this moment that the circuit is freeing itself of air bubbles. The video then shows the screws that close and open the air bleed valves and explains how they should be positioned during opening and closing. Finally, the reservoir is completely filled and the valves are closed.
