Installing Steering Wheel Controls for Communication Devices

Model: BMW Serie 3 E36 - Years 1990-2001

This tutorial shows how to install a Media Bridge connection system that allows steering wheel control of smartphone and USB iPod devices through the audio system of a BMW 3 Series or a Mini. Remove the glove compartment on the passenger side by unscrewing the star screws that hold it and disconnecting the internal light connection. Once freed from the panel, you have the glove compartment clear to mount the Media Bridge control unit. Insert the unit as indicated in the video (same position: with the access ports facing forward). After connecting the unit's cable, position it in one of the four spaces and tuck the excess cable into one of the remaining compartments. Now connect the iPod device cable. The iPod holder unit is also shown, and the preferred installation points are indicated. The last connection to make is the Bluetooth connection. Once the connections are established, reinstall the dashboard cover as before. The wiring will follow a path that is only briefly illustrated but will allow for steering wheel control of all devices.
