Thermostat Valve Disassembly Instructions

Model: BMW Serie 3 E46 - Years 1998-2006

Mineral deposits can clog the thermostat valve, preventing it from opening. To replace it, proceed with the engine cold and start by draining the coolant through the designated drain valve located under the radiator. Next, remove the air filter housing (airbox), the plastic cover on the radiator, and the fan itself, which requires a special wrench. Once you have cleared the space in front of the thermostat, disconnect the hoses attached to it, unplug the temperature sensor connector, and remove the corresponding mounting bolts to extract it from its housing.
