In this video, you can see how to reset the service light on a BMW 3 Series E46: get in the vehicle and make sure all the doors are closed. With the engine off, press and hold the left button on the instrument cluster.

While holding the button, turn the key to position 1; wait about five seconds while still holding the button until the service message appears. Now release the button and then press it again until the "reset" message flashes.

Release the button again and quickly press it once more as soon as the message reappears during the flashing. Operation completed.
