How to Replace the Rear Shock Absorbers on a Citroen C4

To change the rear shock absorbers, lift the car. Do not rely solely on your jack; place spacers between the car and the ground, such as a couple of tyres, as you will need to remove both. To ease the removal of the shock absorbers, spray them with a penetrating oil like WD-40. You will need a 16 mm spanner and a 13 mm socket. It is advisable to use a jack to support the assembly while removing the bolts to avoid excessive force on the parts. Once the bolt is removed, take out the shock absorber. The socket will also be needed for the upper bolts, preferably with an extension. If you do not wish to replace the shock absorber cup, remove it using penetrating oil and reattach it to the new shock absorber. When you have the new shock absorber, pump it a few times to prime it. Refit the assembly by reinstalling the cup you removed earlier, tightening it securely. Position the shock absorber starting from the top and thread the bolts lightly. Insert the lower bolt and tighten both the upper and lower bolts with a torque wrench. Now repeat the process on the other side, then refit the wheels and lower the vehicle. The cost of the two shock absorbers? Between £60 and £85 on major e-commerce platforms.
