How to Clean and Unlock the Ignition Cylinder of the Fiat Punto 188

Has the ignition cylinder ever jammed, preventing you from starting the car? Here’s how to fix it. The materials you will need are: a long 3mm Allen key, a flat screwdriver, silicone lubricant, throttle body cleaner, and a hammer. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. Use the Allen key to unscrew the screws securing the lower cover of the steering column and detach it. Disconnect the transponder sensor. Insert the key and turn it to the first position. With the flat screwdriver, press the metal tab and pull out the lock cylinder by pulling on the key. Remove the circlip, insert the key to the off position, and while holding the lock steady in a vice, slide out the ignition cylinder using the screwdriver and hammer. Now that the cylinder is removed, disassemble it and clean all components with throttle body cleaner. Once cleaned, reassemble the cylinder and lubricate it with silicone lubricant. Refit it into the lock and secure it with the previously removed circlip. Now, reassemble the lock in position, pressing the tab for extraction. Refit the transponder antenna, the lower cover of the steering column, and reconnect the negative battery terminal.
