In this video we talk about the first generation Ford Powershift automatic transmission: the most serious problem is caused by the clutch pack which has the function of absorbing the power output by the engine. The springs are held by plastic supports, and being a "dry" dual clutch, they tend to break easily. We can therefore feel vibrations and jerks during acceleration from a standstill, or during gear changes, similar to the sensation of an inexperienced driver with a manual transmission; harsh shifts; delays in acceleration; sudden shifts to neutral; premature wear of the clutch; problems with the transmission control modules. In the second generation, the problem was solved by adopting an oil bath clutch.
