Today, you will learn how to replace the timing belt on the Ford C Max 1.5 L diesel. The timing on this type of engine uses a dry toothed belt that must be replaced between 62,000 and 112,000 miles or after 8 years of vehicle use. For safety reasons, before proceeding with the belt replacement, disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. Lift the vehicle on a ramp or on axle stands to remove the front right wheel and then disassemble the inner wheel arch liner. Remove the auxiliary belt along with the engine mount on the timing side to access the crankshaft pulley, which will need to be removed. It is crucial during the replacement to bring cylinder 1 to TDC to insert the locking pins on the crankshaft and camshaft. Unscrew the tensioner and remove the old belt. Before installing the new one, check for any oil or water leaks. Install the timing belt and then adjust the tensioner to align it with the indicator by manually turning the engine for two complete turns. Insert the pins and verify that the timing is perfect. Reassemble the engine mount, pulley, auxiliary belt, cover, and finally the wheel. Once the vehicle is back on the ground, start the engine; it should start immediately and without any strange metallic noises. If any difficulties arise, check the oil and ensure that the intervals for the change have not been over-tightened.
