How does Mazda's i-stop system work?

In this video we can discover how the i-stop system of Mazda works: the stop reduces both emissions and fuel consumption. With manual transmission this happens by pressing the brake and clutch pedals: the engine turns off automatically and restarts by pressing the accelerator; in vehicles with automatic transmission you just need to press the brake, and once released the vehicle restarts automatically, with the gear lever in "D" position. When we see the green "i-stop" indicator it means that the function is active: in order for it to work correctly, several requirements must be met. For example, the battery must be sufficiently charged, the outside temperature must not be extreme, the climate control must not be at maximum, the vehicle must not be on a steep slope, and it must be on a straight road, the seat belts must be properly fastened. Of course, it is possible to exclude this function, simply by pressing the button, and the "i-stop" writing lights up in yellow. In any case, the system restarts automatically when the car is restarted, or from the multifunction screen.
