Replacing the Transmission on Mercedes A-Class

Pull the shift knob straight off by hand. Using a small flathead screwdriver or a plastic wedge, pry the shift boot from the base by leveraging the surrounding gaps. Lift it as much as possible to access and remove the nut located underneath it on the shift lever. After completely disassembling the boot and shift lever, proceed in reverse for reassembly, ensuring the new boot is properly seated in the base and snapping the knob back onto the top. As you can see, this is a simple task within everyone's reach.
