How to Check the Integrated Alternator on a Mercedes

Before removing the alternator and integrated starter, it is necessary to remove the gearbox and the ESG control unit. Loosen the sensor screw on the distribution box and connect the connector to the support at the ESG connection panel. Similarly, remove the camshaft sensors for both intake and exhaust. Remove the flexible hose leading to the air filter. Now, move underneath the vehicle. Lift it securely, not relying too much on your jack. Get a jack stand. Remove the bolts from the centring flange and the flange itself. Then disconnect the flexible hoses for the coolant. At this point, you can remove the oil radiator and the coolant inlet pipe. You will need to remove the RPM sensor. Next, remove the vent pipe on the distribution box. Now, bring the engine to the ignition timing; pay attention to the engine's rotation direction and check the camshaft positions through the RPM sensor openings. The mounting plate should be placed on the integrated starter alternator and hand-tightened. Now you can loosen and then remove the bolts connecting the ESG to the crankshaft. Insert the auxiliary mounting shaft. The integrated starter can now be removed from the vehicle. Insert the sensor connector through the opening of the distribution box. Mount the supports of the housing device. Check the ESG by removing the support handles. To make these measurements, specific knowledge is required. For reassembly, follow the reverse order.
