ABS Pump Replacement Instructions

The anti-lock braking system, commonly known as ABS (from English Antilock Braking System or German Antiblockiersystem), is a safety system that prevents wheel lock-up during sudden braking. In an emergency stop, the driver should press the pedal as hard as possible without worrying about locking the wheels, as the control unit will modulate the force to the limit of vehicle grip. It is also advisable for the driver to press the clutch to optimise brake distribution and prevent engine braking on driven wheels from affecting the ABS control unit and other systems. In the case of the vehicle in question, the pump is located in front of the windscreen washer fluid reservoir: disconnect the connector, unscrew all the fastening nuts of the oil lines and the pump's mounting pins (take care to manage any oil spillage during removal); then position the new pump, securing it to its respective housings, fill the line ports with clean oil, and screw them in, tightening the nuts carefully; reconnect the power connector to the control unit, top up the brake fluid reservoir, clean any oil spills (brake fluid is highly corrosive), start the engine, and pump the brake pedal.
