Below are the steps to understand how and when to remove the timing belt on the Peugeot 308 1.6 HDI; for this type of engine, the timing belt should be replaced every 75,000 miles or 5 years. First, open the bonnet and begin unscrewing the intake hose and then the engine mount; next, lift the vehicle and remove the front right wheel and the wheel arch liner.

At this point, disconnect the serpentine belt and remove the crankshaft pulley, taking off the timing cover; then replace the belt with the original one.
