Let's see how to replace the auxiliary belt on the Renault Megane II: you can find the auxiliary belt on Amazon for £14.51 plus £3.99 shipping. Open the bonnet and lift the front of the vehicle.

Use a jack and axle stands; do not rely too much on your scissor jack. Remove the wheel from the passenger side and place it under the vehicle.

You will need to remove the wheel arch liner and the engine cover from above. Disconnect at least the negative terminal of the battery.

Keep the radio code handy for when you reconnect it later. The auxiliary belt drives the alternator, which charges the battery, and operates the power steering, air conditioning compressor, and water pump.

The auxiliary belt is located on the engine side of the passenger. Lift the tensioner to relax the belt and remove it. You also need to replace the tensioner.

You can find the complete tensioner with its arm on Auto-doc for £28.20 plus £9.95 shipping. Refit the new tensioner in its housing.

When refitting the new auxiliary belt, ensure it is installed in the correct direction; the markings should turn clockwise. Pass the belt between the various components, following the initial routing.

Tension the belt using the tensioner. Reconnect the battery, reattach the wheel arch liner, and refit the wheel.

Lower the car, and the operation is complete.
