How to Replace the Auxiliary Belt on a Toyota Aygo

To change the auxiliary belt on a Toyota Aygo, open the bonnet of the vehicle. For safety, disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. The auxiliary belt drives the alternator that charges the battery, but it is also used for the power steering, air conditioning compressor, and water pump. To replace the belt, remove the right front wheel and lift the car. You also need to remove the wheel arch liner to access the belt. Now you can see the auxiliary belt. To remove it, spray some penetrating oil on the tensioner, then use a 12 mm socket to undo the tensioner locking bolt. With a 14 mm socket, try to loosen the upper bolt of the alternator. Use a 10 mm spanner to loosen the locknut of the tensioner. When the belt is loose, you can remove it. Check the tensioner; if necessary, it may need to be replaced. When fitting the new belt, pay attention to the direction of rotation; thread it through the various components according to the fitting diagram. Re-tighten the tensioner bolt, ensuring it is tight but not overly so, or it may be damaged. Remember to re-tighten the alternator bolt. Now refit the wheel arch liner. Reconnect the battery. You can refit the wheel and lower the car. Job done.
