Oil Level Check and Top-Up

It is good practice to check the engine oil level every 1,000/1,500 miles. This check should be done when the engine is cold, or if you have just turned off the engine, it is advisable to wait a few minutes to allow the circulating oil to settle in the sump for a more accurate measurement. To check the oil level, open the bonnet and extract the dipstick, which is highlighted by a coloured ring handle. Remove the dipstick, clean it, and reinsert it into its place. Extract the dipstick again and check that the oil level is between the maximum and minimum level marks. If the level is at the minimum, you can add oil by opening the cap on the sump. Only add oil specific to the type of engine according to the manufacturer's instructions. After topping up the oil, check the level again. Generally, oil should be changed every 8,000 miles or six months. While checking the oil level, also observe its colour and consistency. If it is black and too fluid, it is probably time to change it. Car model: Toyota Yaris
