What does the battery light being on mean?

In this video we can see what it means when the battery light is on in our instrument panel: unfortunately, the problem is with the alternator, which may not be functioning properly and therefore not charging the battery. We are given a practical demonstration of how the alternator works using a compressed air gun that spins it just enough to turn off the warning light that the YouTuber has connected for the demonstration. This means that it is charging. If the alternator stops, the light comes back on immediately because it is no longer charging, which is why the light comes on when we turn the key; the engine is still off. If the light comes on with the engine running, it is a very clear signal. The alternator is no longer charging.
