The steps involved in the basic service of a Volkswagen Golf 7 are fairly simple to carry out yourself. The first step is to replace the engine oil and oil filter.

Open the front bonnet and add an additive to the oil reservoir that will help clean the tank during the oil draining from the sump. Unscrew the bolt that secures the oil sump and let the oil drain out; once finished, close the sump and proceed to replace the oil filter.

After replacing the filter, top up the oil in the reservoir. The second step is to replace the air filter.

Unscrew the screws that secure the air filter cover and remove the clip connecting the air hose to the filter. Remove the worn filter, clean the housing, and insert a new filter.

The third step is to reset the service light. To perform this operation, you need a computer that will connect via an OBD port to the vehicle; follow the settings and reset the service.
