Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement

Model: Volkswagen Jetta A4, MK 4 - Years 1998-2005

Lift the vehicle on a hydraulic lift or on suitable axle stands (if using a workshop jack, it is advisable to use a wooden block with a groove to accommodate the chassis rail). Remove the screws securing the splash guard and then unscrew the drain plug from the oil sump, placing a container of suitable capacity (approximately 5 litres) underneath. Next, unscrew the oil filter located on the side, near the air conditioning pipes. Apply the new filter after coating the gasket with oil to improve adhesion and tighten it by hand. Refit the oil sump plug and fill the engine with new oil according to the SAE specifications and the quantities indicated in the user manual. Start the engine for a few minutes and then check the engine oil level using the dipstick.
