How to replace the oil filter and oil on a Volkswagen Passat? Follow this guide to proceed with the replacement: open the car door and pull up the engine compartment release lever located at the bottom left of the dashboard, then lift the front bonnet and secure it with the prop rod. Remove the engine soundproofing panel, then use a socket spanner to remove the retaining bolt of the container that holds the oil filter. Extract the worn filter, then lift the car onto a column lift and drain the oil from the sump. Bring the car back to the ground, fit the new oil filter, and top up the engine.
