Engine Tuning Instructions

For the Beetle's engine to start and run smoothly, regular tuning is necessary, which involves checking the spark plugs, their respective leads, the distributor, the brushes, the ignition coil, and adjusting the tappets. To perform this adjustment, you will need a feeler gauge, a flat screwdriver, and a 10 mm spanner: once the cover is removed, check the gap between the cup and the rocker arm with the feeler gauge; if it is excessive, loosen the nut with the spanner, adjust the gap with the screwdriver so that the feeler gauge almost fits, and then tighten the nut. Next, check and, if necessary, replace the cap, the spark plug leads, and the spark plugs themselves. After these operations, the engine will start more easily and will be quieter.
