Replacing the Remote Key Battery

Model: Volkswagen Passat B6, 3C - Years 2005-2010

To replace the battery in the remote key, open the key blade (the metal strip that acts as a mechanical key) and use a screwdriver to pry apart the back of the key (the part with the buttons) from the front. At this point, open the two halves of the remote to access the battery and replace it. In the newer version of the key, which has a smaller logo, you can access the battery without separating the key, simply by removing the battery cover. In both cases, ensure the polarity is respected.
