Instructions for Removing the Alternator

Model: Volkswagen Golf Golf IV, MK 4, Golf 4 - Years 1997-2003

The first step is to free the alternator pulley from the auxiliary belt by loosening the relevant tensioner; then disconnect the connector and unscrew the two fixing bolts to release the alternator from its seat and also disconnect the eyelet of the positive cable that allows the battery to charge. Proceed in reverse for the installation of the new alternator: it may be necessary to extract the guide bushings of the fixing bolts to apply to the new alternator; it is advisable to use a pin and a bushing as a puller. Grind and apply grease to the bushings' seats before proceeding with the installation.
