Disassembling Remote Key for Battery Replacement

Model: Volkswagen Passat 3BG, B5 - Years 1996-2005

If your remote no longer opens the doors, the transmitter battery has likely run out. Each remote contains a small battery that powers the electronic circuit of the transmitter. Fortunately, you can access the vehicle using the mechanical key. Replacing the battery is simple; use a screwdriver to pry open the slot in the remote designed to separate the two plastic shells enclosing the transmitter. Once the remote is open, remove the battery by lifting the plastic cover and replace it with a new one of the same specifications. Close the two shells by pressing them gently until the clips snap into place. These batteries are available at any supermarket.
