Installing a Rear Camera on License Plate Lights

Model: BMW Serie 3 E46 - Years 1998-2006
Part: Accessory kit

You can purchase an aftermarket camera mounted on a bracket to replace the one for the rear license plate lights: you will need to remove the cover panels of the trunk.
First, unscrew the 4 screws located just below the tool storage compartment; remove the two pressure clips along the edge of the trunk (near the rubber stops); remove the protective cover of the screw inside the handle used to close the trunk and unscrew the screw itself;
Then, detach and remove the rear part of the trunk cover; disconnect the socket of the internal trunk light and then the other cover.
At this point, remove the license plate light bracket and replace it with the one equipped with a camera; connect the wires according to the attached diagram and route the wiring to reach the fuse box inside the trunk. Connect the camera's power supply to the reverse light bulb to activate the camera when the reverse gear is engaged. Finally, connect the RCA input jacks.
Reassemble the previously removed panels.
