Typically, the thermostat valve that allows hot water circulating in the engine to flow more or less into the radiator for cooling is calibrated to be fully open between 185 and 189 degrees Fahrenheit. Therefore, once the operating temperature is reached, the cooling system is designed and built to maintain the engine temperature within a certain limit. If the fan starts and the temperature does not decrease, it is advisable to stop with the engine running to gradually lower the temperature. 230°F is the maximum temperature for a sealed circuit.
