How to Replace the Battery in a 2016 BMW X1

This tutorial shows you how to independently replace the car battery. First, obtain a new battery from an auto parts store or large retail outlets. When purchasing, pay attention to the terminal arrangement and the required amperage; reversing the terminal arrangement or having a low amperage compared to the car's requirements could make the replacement operation infeasible. Once you have the battery, open the hood and locate the battery. The video shows another battery connected to the system; it serves to keep the system powered so that settings without lasting memory (like the radio, clock, etc.) are not lost. Before proceeding, remove the cover that sits over the battery; you also need to remove the air filter located in front of the battery compartment and its side protection. Unscrew the lower mounting plate, disconnect the battery terminals, and slide the battery out in the direction of travel. Insert the new one in position, secure the terminals, and reassemble the upper bar, cover, air filter, brackets, and battery protections. Finally, if you have a multimeter, measure the voltage across the battery terminals with the engine running to ensure it is charging from the alternator.
