How to Clear the Low Battery Warning on a Ford Galaxy or S-Max

Both the Ford Galaxy and Ford S-Max have a Battery Monitoring System (BMS) that monitors the battery's status. After replacing the battery, the system must be reset to learn the parameters of the new battery; otherwise, it will continue to calculate the charge based on the old (depleted) battery's data, triggering false alarms and poor charging management. It is crucial that the sequence is performed in the correct timing and order. Therefore, with the new battery and the driver's door open: turn on the sidelights, turn on the ignition and wait for 5 seconds, then press the front fog light button 5 times at regular intervals of 1 second between presses. After the 5th press, the battery light should start flashing (indicating that you have entered learning mode). Immediately press the hazard light button 4 times, in the same manner. After the 4th press, the light should turn off completely. You will hear the horn sound once and/or the steering wheel will lock electrically and then unlock. This indicates that the reset was successful. Turn off the ignition, turn off the lights, and wait for 30 seconds to allow the control unit to save the data. Start the engine: the battery light should be off.
