Ford Escort - Video tutorial

Model: Ford Escort MK 4 - Years 1990-2000
Part: Timing belt
Operation: Timing belt replacement

Replacing the timing belt is a fairly delicate operation to perform as a misalignment of the timing references could seriously damage the engine. Having said this, in order to work comfortably, first loosen the tensioner (which will then have to be removed) of the auxiliary belt and remove it; then remove the front right wheel and the wheel arch to access the pulleys and remove the crankshaft one; remove the plastic protections of the toothed belt, align the timing references and proceed with disassembly by loosening the relative tensioner. In addition to the belt, it is also suggested to replace the water pump and the tensioner: drain the liquid and replace the pump and then install the new toothed belt and also the auxiliary one.
