Ford Focus - Video tutorial

Model: Ford Focus MK 1 - Years 1998-2004
Part: Dashboard
Operation: Dashboard disassembly instructions

Disassembling the dashboard is an operation that requires a lot of time and above all a lot of patience since there are a lot of elements to be removed in a well-determined sequence. Start by disconnecting the battery, remove the driver's airbag and then the steering wheel; remove the frame around the dial and then the odometer fixing screws and then remove it by disconnecting the socket; remove the glove box immediately under the steering wheel, the radio controls on the light switch and then the protective shells of the light switch itself and then remove this too. Disassemble the passenger side airbag, the glovebox and the central tunnel lining (both the upper and lower part) by releasing the gear lever and handbrake gaiter; remove the car radio with the special keys and remove the controls from the center console by disconnecting the various sockets, remove the side coverings near the door pillars, the air vents conveyors and then start unscrewing the fixing screws of the dashboard itself (intercept them all): at this point remove the dashboard.

Handbrake adjustment on Ford Ecosport

First remove the plastic profile at the base of the gear lever. To do this, slightly widen the side edges and carefully lift it to release it. There is no need to remove it completely, just move it forward to avoid bother. Now remove the plastic center console around the handbrake by first working from the rear to release it and lifting it until the brake lever passes. Also in this case it is not necessary to remove it completely but, paying attention to the connected cables, it can be stowed in front of the passenger seat. At this point we notice that at the base of the handbrake lever, on the front, we find a nut. By acting on it, with a 10 wrench, we can adjust the brake force, increasing it by turning the nut clockwise, or decreasing it by turning it counterclockwise. Once adjusted, the center console can be repositioned first, pressing lightly to engage it, and then the profile of the gearbox base.
