Check the operation of the pneumatic EGR valve

The EGR valve serves to reintroduce a portion of the exhaust gases back into the intake to achieve further combustion and reduce pollutants. Depending on the engine speed, this valve opens and closes as needed and can be controlled either by an electric actuator or a pneumatic one, as is the case with the vehicle in question. To test the efficiency of this valve without removing it, remove the air duct, intercept the valve, disconnect the vacuum hose, and connect a manual vacuum pump. Activate the pump to create a vacuum and open the valve: if the actuator membrane is good, the vacuum will be maintained, keeping the needle steady. Similarly, you can start the engine, allow the valve to open to make the engine run unevenly, then close it to return the engine to normal operation.
