Maintenance Guide for the Mercedes E-Class W211

The Mercedes E-Class W211 requires regular but not excessive maintenance. However, it is necessary to change the oil every 7,000 miles (11,200 km) and not 13,000 miles (20,900 km) as recommended by Mercedes. The oil to use is 0W40 or 5W40: 8 quarts for the 6-cylinder engine, 9 for the 8-cylinder. The drive belt should be checked frequently: models after the facelift have a ribbed pulley that wears out every 2 years; replace it at the first noise along with the belt. The spark plugs should be changed every 60,000 miles (96,500 km). The transmission (722.6 with 5 speeds or 722.9 with 7) requires fluid every 40,000 miles (64,000 km) with specification 236.14 and OE filter. For the 5-speed, change the drive plate every 3 services; for the 7-speed, clean the valves and magnet. Steering fluid, differential, and brakes should be replaced every 2 years. The filters (air, cabin) should be changed every year. A well-maintained E-Class W211 has an impressive lifespan.
