Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement in an Opel Astra J

Model: Vauxhall Astra Astra J - Years 2009-2016

Open the oil filler cap to allow the oil to drain more quickly. Lift the front of the car to access the oil tank bolt and use safety jack stands. Remove the plastic cover if present. Place a container under the oil sump to collect the used oil. Use a Torx socket wrench size 45 to loosen the oil filter bolt, then finish by hand (wear protective gloves). Use a socket wrench with an extension and a 32mm socket to loosen the filter counterclockwise, then finish unscrewing by hand. Use a flathead screwdriver to remove the gasket under the flange edge. Clean the flange with a cleaner and a cloth. Remove the two gaskets located on the filter support bar. Place the new gaskets. Take the new filter and insert it into the bar, then fit everything into the flange; lubricate the gaskets installed on the flange. Screw the filter in by hand, then tighten with the 32mm socket wrench. Screw in the drain and oil bolts. Lower the vehicle and top up the engine oil.
